Umah di Desa

Umah Di Desa in Seminyak, Bali

Umah di Desa is set along a quiet residential street amidst villas and Balinese-style houses interspersed with banana trees, a peaceful sanctuary well located within a few hundred meters of the long sandy stretch of beach at Batubelig. Just minutes from Seminyak, the once sleepy village of Batubelig is fast becoming the place to be in southern Bali, with a number of world-class restaurants opening up in the area – alongside more traditional warungs and a plethora of spa salons. The villa is well configured for two friends, couples or a small family. While compact in size, the design makes good use of the available space with plenty of natural light and two separate sleeping pavilions creating privacy. (If more space is needed, guests could book 3-bedroom next door neighbor Umah di Desa III.)

Creamy stone walls are accented by pale distressed timber door frames and shutters, and a theme of soft grey-blue is reflected in the wood finishings, flower motifs on the tiles and even the kitchen appliances. Interiors are an amalgam of styles, from retro tiles to antique hardwood furnishings, bold print textiles, and contemporary word art posters and elaborately carved Javanese wooden panels. What the garden lacks in space it makes up for in vibrancy, with lush leafy fronds dangling with crimson heliconia encircling a verdant lawn, with more greenery framing the swimming pool where shade is provided by a thatched beruga (pavilion) stacked with batik cushions.

Umah di Desa II’s kitchen is well set up for self-catering, and whole grain bread, butter, eggs, milk coffee and tea are provided the first breakfast. Guests can stock up on other food items at nearby Canggu Deli and the local fruit and vegetable markets. The housekeeper is also happy to shop for you and will keep an eye on the kids during her working hours (8am until 4pm). For a reasonable extra charge, a chef can be organized to prepare meals in villa, but there is a fabulous range of restaurants within walking distance, or short cab drive; Metis, Sardine, Potato Head and the newly opened Mozaic Beach club at Batu belig, to name but a few. The owners are kind and friendly and conveniently live right next door, as does the helpful manager, who is happy to organize car rental, tour information, chef hire or anything else to help you make the most of your stay in Bali.

The air-conditioned bedroom pavilions are similarly configured with king-size beds, ensuite bathrooms, safes, TVs and DVD players and walk-in dressing rooms with built-in storage. Pale distressed timber furniture is adorned with bold print textiles. Generous bathrooms have ornately tiled floors, freestanding terrazzo tubs, glassed shower areas, gleaming modern fittings and giant carved wooden mirrors. The master bedroom is furnished with a four-poster bed, wooden desk, tropical-themed coffee table books and bedside drawers. Double antique wooden doors open onto the bathroom which comes complete with crystal chandelier. The second bedroom has a wood and rattan sleigh-style bed, antique wardrobe, shelves lined with statues and trinkets, and a small selection of books. Glass doors open onto the pool deck on one side and the garden on the other, with an antique daybed nestled amidst the heliconia. The ensuite bathroom is similar in style to that of the master bedroom, but slightly narrower.

Batu belig is the relax and booming area in Bali next to Seminyak. The Villa is a 5 minute walk to the beach, the W Hotel and small beach bars along with many great restaurant on the main road such as Naughty Nuris, Mozaic Beach Club, Slippery Stone, The Pavilion, La Lucciola and many more. It is 5 minute drive to the Canggu Club and also to Seminyak where lies all your shopping and great restaurants. The Villa is on a small rustic private lane with other villas around. It is a quaint and peaceful lush surroundings.
